Staff Development Manager (Culture Change and Career Management)

“The Theatre Learning Team have been working with B&NES (Bath & North East Somerset) off and on for many years. They have in the past provided theatre learning for us on themes around; Customer Service, Equalities and Diversity and Harassment & Bullying. More recently over the last year they have been an integral part of our Councils “Changing How We Work” programme, the biggest change programme the Council has undertaken in 17 years, changing our working practices to a flexible working approach, significant changes to our ITC provision and to our office accommodation and how we use it…..all of this has meant that staff have had to undergo a massive behaviour change.
Theatre Learning have provided some brilliant half day role play events around a range of flexible working issues for staff to be able to explore and discuss their concerns in a safe and supportive environment. As a team they adapted the brief we gave them brilliantly, they came along and piloted it and then were responsive to our feedback and then we rolled out these events across the whole organisation in a range of venues. We have had consistently high levels of positive feedback from staff about these events finding them a fun but informative and safe way of learning. Theatre Learning have always been very adaptable to our needs not only in content but in terms of date and venue changes. They have subsequently come back and delivered a “phase 2” where we have delivered some bite sized behaviour embedment events as well. Always reliable and a joy to work with I could not recommend them highly enough and I think they are excellent value for money too.
We hope to use them again in the future.”

“The Safety Culture Team thank you and your team for the excellent training sessions you have provided.
The response to the sessions has been very positive. The way you and your team can react to the changing mood of the audience and keep them engaged was exceptional. Some “prisoners” from the course commented to me that the training was better than they had expected and thought it was a worthwhile course.
I am looking forward to working with you again in April.
Thanks for an excellent service”

“Theatre Learning has recently provided a programme of half day interactive workshops on Diversity for Exeter City Council which was rolled out to its entire staff.
The format of the workshops was one which used actors to portray workplace scenarios that focused on some of the problems that arise when Diversity issues are not properly managed.
This format is far better than standard role play sessions in that the message is put over in an effective way by the actors and delegates are actively encouraged to take part in the programme from the safety of their seats.
This type of training is very powerful in getting the message across to staff and far outstrips the standard tutor-led classroom sessions in terms of the quality of outcomes. Theatre Learning consistently provide an excellent product at a very reasonable cost and I am happy to recommend them to any other organisation.”

"Theatre Learning delivers events that are really engaging and make people think about the issues presented in a different way to a more traditional style learning event. What they do is always very well received by our employees and I would recommend using them to anyone"

“Babcock Marine & Technology in Plymouth have worked with Theatre Learning over a number of years where we have worked in partnership to provide a variety of programmes from Equality & Diversity to Customer Service. We are continuously impressed with the way Joe and his team quickly understand our requirements and respond with an accurate portrayal of our needs in an imaginative and effective format. Nearly all of our 4,000 employees have attended at least one of the programmes run by the team, and the response from all participants has been extremely positive and enthusiastic - a very effective mechanism of training and learning by a professional group.”

“Theatre learning have been working in partnership with the Equalities and Diversity group at Bath and North East Somerset Council to deliver equality and diversity training. They have designed and delivered interventions to a number of our staff from Chief Executive, Elected Members, Heads of Service and to frontline staff.
They have had the capacity to deliver to large and small audiences in a number of locations for us. The standard of acting is very good and very convincing and the reviews from our learners have been excellent.
They have scripted specific scenarios at our request and worked with managers to ensure the objectives for the session met learning needs (attitudinal, behavioural, appropriate language etc). All staff have responded that Joe is an excellent facilitator and is very adept at managing difficult and aggressive audiences.
The company has been excellent value for money for us, we are continuing to commission them, and I do not hesitate to recommend them.”

Equalities and Diversity training is not the most popular course and traditional delivery tends to put our councillors off. Theatre Learning's approach is innovative and thought provoking and really brings to life some of the issues which worry Councillors but which they feel they cannot bring up. The brilliantly acted scenarios made participants think deeply about attitudes and behaviours and the affect
language and inappropriate actions can have on minority groups.
Most equalities course can only look at behaviours. Theatre Learnings' approach tackles attitudes very quickly and effectively.

“I found it very easy to work with the theatrelearning team, you simply outline your requirements, then they take it away, do all the hard work, creating scenes which have a humorous way of hitting home the message and transferring the learning!!
